LILLE ... LE SOLEIL DANS LE COEUR!

'm back at last! Live from France, from Lille from the heart of Europe

Lille was European Capital of Culture 2004. A city rich in history and charm that has tried in recent years to get up off its image of being a bit past decades' gray. Lille is anything but gray and those who visit it will undoubtedly build a great experience.
Lille is the center of a metropolitan area which includes the towns of Roubaix and Tourcoing, with a population exceeding one million inhabitants.

Lille is also famous for its citadel, European monument to the art of defense. Four months after the entry in Lille troops of Louis XIV, Vauban's genius French military undertook the construction

the citadel to protect the city. This large complex is located in a swampy area that could be flooded if necessary. The skilful combination of brick and sandstone, the plant logic and the ability to meet the needs of the artillery, have made the masterpiece of the great engineer. His defensive strength was such that Marlborough and his allies the Dutch took them 62 days to enter the city and 48 others to submit the citadel itself. The high quality of costruzioneè evident in the gables, with allegorical sculptures of Port Royal, in the tympanum, rich picture of the arsenal and the vault of postieria Ste-Barbe. Many French people knew the death of Turenne's Bastion, which served as a place of execution during the world wars.

Lille's Old Town has experienced a real flourished since, in 1965, some people have realized that you were hiding behind the battered plaster wonderful seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings. The style of Lille, which has preserved magnificent monuments of the English period, owes its originality to the union of brick and carved stones.
